Dear Cathy,

I wholeheatedly agree with your article on pavement parking. I have been pestering the police in my area (Bo'ness) for several years to no avail. I am sick and tired of having to walk around these cars when I should be able to keep safely to the footways. On one occasion when I reported this to my local police I was told that as long as a pedestrian has enough room to remain on the pavement when passing a vehicle parked in this situation they will not take any action against any driver who parks on a pavement. They tried to tell me that as long as there is about 1mtr gap it's OK for them to park in this way which I think is a load of nonsense. Within my housing estate there is always cars parked on the pavements totally blocking any passageway of pedestrians. Mothers with prams are having to walk on the roads and I have seen a blind person walk straight into a car which he wouldn't have expected on the pavement.

Recently I have been complaining to the police regarding regarding cars parking on the pavement outside Kinneil School when dropping off or picking up children once again to no avail. The parking on the pavement is bad enough but they are then driving along the pavement while children are walking there. I have provided the polce with photographs but no action is ever taken. It's about time this was taken more seriously. The police just seem to think it's not worth bothering about.

Kevin,

Thanks for your comment. I will raise this matter with Sustrans.

Sustrans was one of a number of organisations giving evidence annd being questioned by the TICC committee with regard to the National Planning Framework 2. You can check the Official Report when it appears on http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/s3/committees/ticc/meetings.htm to see what they said.

Good Morning Cathy,

It was great to see that the Transport Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee met once again yesterday. What alarmed me was that sustrans name appeared on the committee.
Sustrans sponsored the wide pavement between Skinflats and Glensburgh. This project remains unfinished and dangerous. The road has pooling of water along the A905 & no entry/exit ramp at Glensburgh
Sustrans achievements, outside of self-promotion and marketing, are far less significant than they have led people to believe. For example most of the National Cycle Network is on existing roads that have been attractive cycling routes for the last 50 years or more. Yet having designated these as part of the NCN Sustrans seem to claim credit for their existence. Please allow sustran's to complete one task before considering them for another.
As a cyclist I say no to sustrans being involved at any level in my local community & that includes the Transport Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee.

Thank You

Kevin Corcoran.

Kevin,

I agree wholeheartedly, and through the Transport Infrastructure and Climate Change committee, I have been pushing for the expansion of and improvements to cycling routes.

I will also take up the issue locally. The Transport Forum is concerned about all local transport issues, and would hope to improve the local situation for all forms of travel, but of course the meeting in parliament was attempting to secure improvements on the basis of shifting freight from roads to rail and sea transport, within the context of sustainable development and the National Planning Framework.

The case put forward is good, but fails to mention commuting by cycle. Surely we should be addressing the lack of safe commuting cycle lanes between Grangemouth and the outlying key villages.
