The local Labour MP and MSP from Falkirk have spoken following the confirmation that two people from Polmont were confirmed as having contracted swine flu whilst in Mexico.
Local Labour MP Eric Joyce said:
“I spoke to the chief executive of NHS Forth Valley last night. This is a very worrying time for all the people concerned, their friends and families, and indeed the whole community in Polmont.
“The priority is to treat the young couple who are ill, and identify people who have been in contact with them urgently. I understand that this is focusing on seven people initially.
“Luckily, this remains a rare disease and the chances of infection are very, very low.
“Anyone in Scotland who is concerned they may have developed symptoms should contact NHS24 on 08454 24 24 24.”
Local Labour MSP Cathy Peattie said:
“It is very important to be vigilant, but the chances of infection are extremely low. Nonetheless this is a worrying time for people in Polmont and anyone who develops flu-like symptoms should contact NHS24 on 08454 24 24 24.”
