Public Notices & Local Newspapers

Labour MSPs have demanded that the SNP drop its proposals to allow local councils to put public notices online only, instead of in newspapers.

Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie, who convenes Holyrood’s Cross Party Group on Culture & Media, rang the alarm bells on this issue some months ago, flagging up the damage that could be caused by the switch to internet advertising.

Cathy calls for Boiler Grant scheme in Scotland

Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie is calling for Scotland to adopt the Boiler Grant scheme that has now been introduced in England.

From today, householders in England will get £400 towards the cost of a new energy efficient boiler, but the Scottish Government currently has no plans for a similar scheme here – even though the Barnett formula means they will get extra money because of the scheme.

Cathy helps force climbdown on fees for fundraising

Falkirk East MSP Cathy Peattie put the Cabinet Secretary for Justice on the spot regarding his plans to remove the exemption from licence fees for fundraising events. Speaking in the Scottish Parliament on the last day of sitting before the Christmas recess, Cathy said that this would be a result of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Bill and could mean that local organisations would have to pay £200 to hold their events.
