Councils are struggling to undo the damage caused by the winter freeze, because they are suffering from the council tax freeze.
“Local Authorities are clearly having difficulty finding the cash needed to repair and maintain local roads. The impact seems to be particularly acute in some of the rural authorities, which face additional problems because of the large areas they cover.
“The severe weather last winter has made the situation worse, but with council finances stretched because of the continuing freeze on Council Tax, there are limited funds available to address the deterioration in our roads.
“Because of the failure to address the council funding issue, the situation is likely to get worse.”
